Knowing our identity in Christ is very important to us. Lot of times, I think that my works are important, since the Word of God says, Faith without works is dead. But, there should be balance here.
Our salvation is based on our faith on our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.We must know what we receive when we believe in Jesus Christ. We receive the privilege of being God's children, which is the best thing we can have. Lot of times, I have struggled with my identity which I base upon my works and my failures, and I still struggle, but trying to overcome by God's grace. But God loves us as we are and His mercies are new every morning. In Christ we are forgiven, redeemed, cleansed, made new, protected, blessed, healed, provided, comforted, etc.
Its important for us to know who we are in Christ, only then we can stand against the lies of the devil. Its important that we fill our mind with the truth(the Word of God) so that we can keep the lies out of our mind. And knowing our position/identity in Christ helps us overcome and thwart the lies of the enemy.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
"If our identity in Christ is the key to wholeness," you may ask, "why do so many believers have difficulty with self-worth, spiritual growth and maturity?" Because we have been deceived by the devil. Our true identity in Christ has been distorted by the great deceiver himself.
